The Bosniak part of the BiH mission to the United Nations is independently working on a new resolution on Srebrenica, without a decision from the Presidency of BiH, to be presented at the UN General Assembly session in April, according to unofficial sources from Večernje Novosti.

This is not the first time that Bosniak representatives have prepared various resolutions. Should the new resolution be presented at the United Nations, Republika Srpska counts on its friends in the General Assembly to present the facts, just as Russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin did in 2015.

President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, states that he sees no reason for anyone from Republika Srpska to believe in the good intentions of the BiH ambassador to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdžija, or the Bosniaks who, as he says, strive every day to finish off or impose some evil on Republika Srpska.

Thus continues the old battle on the East River. Bosniak ambassadors at the UN mission are replaced. They act independently. They operate in their own and the party’s name, bypassing the procedures without the approval of the Presidency, which holds the reins of BiH diplomacy. And this is nothing new for Republika Srpska. Nor are attempts to adopt a resolution on Srebrenica in New York new.

“A serious crime occurred in Srebrenica for which many have been held accountable. I think that nobody is being sought for that crime anymore, except for the Muslims who committed crimes against Serbs. Those events are silenced, as are Naser Orić and many others who committed crimes against Serbs. They are completely ignored, but that’s the false narrative that wants to repeat only one side, neglecting the other so that one remains as the definitive truth, which is not the case,” says Dodik.

Naser Orić on a horse to the right into the village of Kravica in ’93.

Behind all this, according to Večernje Novosti, hides yet another attempt to discredit the Republic of Srpska. The goal, they say, is to dismantle the Dayton Agreement and merge Srpska into a unitary BiH. And that is nothing new for the officials of Srpska.

“We have pointed this out on several occasions and in various places, and we will do so again. We will try to mobilize our friends in the General Assembly who will present views that correspond to the actual state of affairs here,” says Dodik.

And it would not be the first time that friends of Srpska have presented such views in New York. The Serbs and Republika Srpska will never forget the Russian “no” by Vitaly Churkin in the Security Council in July 2015. Churkin’s loud “nyet” prevented the adoption of the British resolution on Srebrenica.

Milorad Kojić, former director of the Republic Center for Research on War, War Crimes, and the Search for the Missing, says that the leadership of Republika Srpska, led by President Milorad Dodik, has excellent relations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and with that in mind, a definitive Russian “nyet” in the Security Council will definitely follow.

It should be reminded that the facts about the suffering of all peoples in Srebrenica, in the period from 1992 to 1995, were presented in 2021 by the Independent International Commission for the Investigation of the Suffering of All Peoples in the Srebrenica Region, led by historian Gideon Greif.

Greif has previously stated that the sole purpose of the Commission’s report is truth and justice, based on facts.

“I am sure that the report will contribute to the spread of truth, the fight against prejudice, and will be a ray of light in the darkness of lies and hatred,” said Greif.

In the preparation of this report, the Republican Center for Research on War and War Crimes served as administrative and technical support for the commission. Kojić, who was then the director of the Center, says that the Commission’s conclusions should be acceptable to all.

“Reconciliation will come when they say ‘we committed crimes against the Serbs in Podrinje.’ We have already said that we are ready and that terrible crimes against Bosniaks in Srebrenica did happen, without such qualification as they want to impose. And that is the path to reconciliation. We have made the first step, but through these behind-the-scenes actions, they do not want to take such a step but want to deepen even greater crisis within BiH,” says Kojić.

The Independent Commission’s report, which took 855 days to prepare, determined that around 3,500 Bosniaks and more than 2,000 Serbs perished during the war in the Srebrenica region.
