Lawyer Ognjen Tadić said that the idea of Republika Srpska Day fundamentally represents a very clear and fair message of the Serbian people: that they are ready to negotiate the future but are not willing to let anyone else decide their future against their will.
Tadić reminded that this is the essence of the historical document, the Declaration on the Establishment of the Serb Republic in BiH, where it is very clearly stated: ‘This declaration comes into force on the day of its adoption and will be implemented on the day of a potential recognition of BiH’s independence. The implementation of the Declaration will be postponed indefinitely provided that the request for recognition of BiH’s independence by its proponents is withdrawn by January 15, 1992.’
So, the key decision in the creation of Republika Srpska was made by the representatives of the then-Muslims—today’s Bosniaks—and Croats, who did not leave any other option for the Serb people but to form Republika Srpska to safeguard themselves from the repetition of genocide from the First and Second World Wars,’ emphasized Tadić.
Tadić emphasized that today’s representatives of Bosniaks are making the same mistake as their predecessors by pushing for the independence of Republika Srpska as the only way out of a situation that needs to be resolved without jeopardizing the Dayton Peace Agreement, for which the larger part of Bosniak politicians, along with Christian Schmidt and a few Western politicians, are responsible.
‘We hope they will have enough sense to abandon this bad job, and the first signs of improvement will be seen in the adoption of laws replacing foreign judges in the Constitutional Court of BiH with domestic judges, the departure of Schmidt, and the cessation of political persecution of democratically elected representatives of Republika Srpska,’ Tadić conveyed to Srna.
Republika Srpska will celebrate Republic Day and its 32 years of existence on January 9th. January 9th is celebrated as the Day of Republika Srpska because on that date in 1992, it emerged under the name of the Republic of the Serbian People in BiH.”
