Ostojić highlights National Assembly’s historic role in the creation and preservation of Republika Srpska

Republika Srpska Minister of Labor and War Veterans and Disability Protection Radan Ostojić has emphasized the historic importance of the National Assembly in the creation and preservation of Republika Srpska, marking the 35th anniversary of the institution’s establishment.

“The establishment of the Assembly of the Serb People in BiH on October 24, 1991, represents one of the most significant dates in the modern history of the Serb people,” Ostojić stated in a congratulatory message addressed to National Assembly President Nenad Stevandić, members of parliament and the citizens of Republika Srpska.

He emphasized that the establishment of the Assembly marked the beginning of a process of institutional organization that laid the foundations for the creation of Republika Srpska.

Tribute to the founders of the National Assembly

“We owe particular gratitude and respect to the members of the first Assembly and its founders, who, under complex and historically decisive circumstances, demonstrated the vision, courage and determination to lay the foundations for the institutional organization of the Serb people and create the conditions for the establishment of Republika Srpska,” Ostojić said.

He added that their role and historical responsibility remain permanently embedded in the creation of Republika Srpska.

Ostojić noted that the National Assembly is one of Republika Srpska’s most important institutions, responsible for adopting laws and decisions essential to its constitutional position, the functioning of its institutions and the everyday lives of its citizens.

He recalled that following the 1992–1995 war and the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995, Republika Srpska secured its place within the constitutional framework of BiH, while the National Assembly continued to play a significant role in its institutional life.

Special responsibility toward war veterans and families of fallen soldiers

“Our duty is to preserve the legacy of the founders, respect the historical circumstances in which Republika Srpska was established and remain worthy of the sacrifice made by those who gave their lives in its defense,” Ostojić emphasized.

He highlighted the particular responsibility of institutions toward war veterans, disabled war veterans, families of fallen soldiers and all other beneficiaries of veterans’ protection programs.

On behalf of the Ministry of Labor and War Veterans and Disability Protection and in his own name, Ostojić extended his sincere congratulations on the 35th anniversary of the National Assembly’s establishment.

He expressed hope that the institution would continue to fulfill its responsibilities and adopt decisions in the interests of Republika Srpska and its citizens.

The National Assembly of Republika Srpska, the highest constitutional and legislative body within Republika Srpska’s institutional structure and the central institution of its parliamentary system, was established on October 24, 1991, under its original name, the Assembly of the Serb People in BiH.
