Miloš Jojić scored Borac Banja Luka’s only goal in Athens, but his effort was not enough to prevent a 2–1 defeat against Panathinaikos in the opening round of the UEFA Conference League.
Following the match, Jojić admitted that Borac had approached the encounter with too much respect for their opponents, which ultimately proved costly.
“We went into the match showing too much respect for our opponents, and that cost us dearly. At halftime, we agreed that we needed to be braver and keep possession of the ball,” Jojić said.
He emphasized that Borac delivered a much stronger performance after the break but acknowledged that Panathinaikos deserved the victory.
“We played much better, but it still wasn’t enough to beat Panathinaikos. When we play as a team, when we stick together, defend and attack collectively, and press high up the pitch, we can cause problems for anyone. However, to be fair, the Greeks were the better side today and deserved to win,” he added.
Borac turn attention to Velež and KuPS
Jojić also thanked the supporters who traveled to Athens to cheer on the Banja Luka club.
“Thank you to the fans who came to support us. Their support means a great deal to us,” he said.
Borac will now turn their attention to domestic competition before returning to European action.
“Our first focus is on Velež and the away match in Mostar in the BiH Premier League. After that, we have the second round of European competition, when we will host Finnish side KuPS. Hopefully, we will play in front of a packed stadium,” Jojić concluded.
