Simić: NATO attacks on Serbs were preparation for the conflict in Ukraine

The violence and NATO attacks against the Serbs were preparation for the conflict in Ukraine and a war against Russia, President of the Journalists’ Association of Republika Srpska Danijel Simić said in an interview with TASS.

“Everything that NATO, the United States and the EU did to us Serbs in the 1990s was merely preparation for what they would later do to the Russians. They were preparing for a real war against Russia,” said Simić, who also worked as a war correspondent.

In his view, Russians should remember the lessons of history and should not allow NATO and the EU to dictate what they should do.

“Serbs and Russians are very similar, and our position in Yugoslavia was similar to Russia’s position in the Soviet Union. We were the largest ethnic group in Yugoslavia. Many of us lived throughout the republics of the former Yugoslavia and remained there, in another country, after its breakup. That was the cause of the wars in Croatia and BiH,” Simić said.

He added that what he described as the unfair treatment of Serbs continues to represent one of Europe’s major problems.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the West believes it can act with impunity and that everything is permitted to it, noting that it all began with NATO’s attack on Yugoslavia.

During a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin said that he did not understand why the collective West had, in his view, treated the Serbian people unfairly over the past several decades.
