The Kosovo and Metohija Folk Dance and Song Ensemble “Venac” held a concert in Prijedor as part of the “Days of Serbia in Republika Srpska” program.
Ensemble Director Snežana Jovanović said Venac had been participating in the “Days of Serbia in Republika Srpska” program for nearly a decade.
“It is a pleasure to come to Republika Srpska, to be among our people, and we cannot help but respond to such a warm welcome. We do so with pride because we know how much we have in common — not only the hardships we have endured throughout history, but above all the support that people from this region give us in Kosovo and Metohija, which means a great deal to us,” Jovanović told reporters in Prijedor.
She noted that the professional Venac Ensemble was founded in 1964 and currently has 70 members and more than 30 associates.
“Our duty is to preserve Serb folk dances from Kosovo and Metohija, as well as those from across Serbia and the broader Serb cultural space,” Jovanović added.
Members of the Serbian Cultural and Artistic Society “Dr Mladen Stojanović” from Prijedor also performed as guests at the concert.
The society’s secretary, Nebojša Aleksić, said the host ensemble would present traditional dances from the Kozara region depicting local wedding customs.
