The exhibition “Heroes Defending Republika Srpska,” authored by historian and senior curator Ostoja Railić, MA, has officially opened at the Museum of Republika Srpska.
The exhibition and accompanying publication present brief biographies of three officers of the Army of Republika Srpska: Lieutenant General Momir Talić (1942–2003), pilot Colonel Zlatan Crnalić (1963–2024) and pilot Lieutenant Colonel Slobodan Kusturić (1955–1993), alongside objects and documents from their personal collections.
The exhibition was officially opened by Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović.
According to the Museum of Republika Srpska, “Heroes Defending Republika Srpska” brings together the stories of three prominent members of the Army of Republika Srpska and items from their legacies that now form part of the museum’s extensive Collection for the History of Republika Srpska.
Of the three figures featured in the exhibition, one was killed during the war, while the other two died in the post-war period, the museum said.
Lieutenant General Momir Talić (1942–2003) served as wartime commander of the First Krajina Corps and later as commander of the First Corps before becoming Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska.
Pilot Colonel Zlatan Crnalić (1963–2024) is presented by the museum as one of the heroes of the Defense and Homeland War.
Lieutenant Colonel and pilot Slobodan Kusturić (1955–1993) was the first commander of the 92nd Mixed Aviation Brigade of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Army of Republika Srpska.
Parts of the personal collections of all three officers have become part of the Museum’s Collection for the History of Republika Srpska.
The collection of historical materials for the project was financed by the Republika Srpska Ministry of Education and Culture.
The exhibition features 49 objects and documents, 34 photographs and 14 accompanying texts.
The displayed material includes orders, medals, charters and other documents relating to decorations, uniforms, helmets, military caps, pilots’ flight suits and jackets, berets, diplomas, documents of various origins, topographic maps, working notes, magazines, brochures and insignia.
The Museum of Republika Srpska expressed particular gratitude to all those who donated materials for the collection.
The thematic exhibition and accompanying publication are intended to mark more than three decades since the establishment of Republika Srpska, the end of the Defense and Homeland War and the conclusion of the peace agreement by presenting objects and documents belonging to the three officers.
The museum said the exhibition also represents another step toward its long-term goal of establishing a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of Republika Srpska.
