Zoran Stevanović, the newly elected Speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly, expressed support for Milorad Dodik in September 2025 after the Slovenian government imposed sanctions on him, including a ban on entering the country.
At the time, Stevanović told our television that his party, Resni.ca (Truth), did not agree with the decision, arguing that it would not bring any benefit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, or Slovenia itself. He also claimed that the move was driven not by the Slovenian government, but by institutions in Brussels.
He emphasized that imposing sanctions does not contribute to dialogue or solutions, but instead deepens divisions and mistrust among peoples.
“In Slovenia, we already have more than enough of our own problems that we are not resolving, so it is entirely wrong to further burden regional relations with moves that have no real meaning and do not contribute to peace,” Stevanović said at the time.
He also pointed out that his party has consistently advocated that Slovenia should not interfere in the internal political processes of other countries.
“We believe that the fundamental interest of our country is to remain neutral in diplomatic and military disputes, to build bridges between peoples, not walls,” Stevanović concluded.
Stevanović, leader of the Slovenian opposition party Resni.ca (Truth), was elected Speaker of the National Assembly earlier today.
