Filip Šantić, a member of Jiu-Jitsu Club Slavija East Sarajevo and a representative of Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, won the cadet European title at the European Championship held on the Greek island of Crete.
On his path to the European title, Šantić had a bye in the opening round as a seeded competitor. In the second round, he defeated Italy’s Della Vito 11–8. In the semifinals, he convincingly beat Ukraine’s champion Puvovavor 22–8, before securing victory in the final against Montenegro’s Lazar Đoković with a dominant 24–12 scoreline—earning his first European gold medal.
Šantić already holds two medals from official World Championships: a bronze in the younger cadet category won in Crete in 2024, and another bronze in the older cadet category earned in Thailand in 2025.
He has been named the best athlete of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Republika Srpska for two consecutive years and is a scholarship recipient of the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports. He was also recognized as the best athlete of East Novo Sarajevo for the past year.
Šantić was the only gold medalist from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the European Championship, which took place from March 14 to 22 and gathered more than 1,700 competitors from 31 European countries.
