Cvijanović at panel “National Sovereignty and Foreign Migration” in Washington: Republika Srpska has shown it has strong institutions

Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović participated in the panel titled “National Sovereignty and Foreign Migration” within the summit of the Alliance of Sovereign Nations held in Washington, D.C..

She stated that almost every society faces challenges regarding foreign migration.

“When you look at Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska has never accepted or organized migrant camps. We showed responsibility toward our citizens because they elected us,” Cvijanović said.

She added that problems arose due to an approach suggesting that authorities should simply “be kind and show a big heart.”

“But the issue here is not whether you have a ‘big heart,’ but whether you demonstrate responsibility toward your citizens, because the people elected us. We wanted to show that we have strong institutions, and that is how we dealt with it,” she said.

Cvijanović also recalled that during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, jihadists came to fight in the country.

“After the war they went abroad and joined Al-Qaeda,” she said.

She added that Bosnia and Herzegovina still faces additional problems.

“We have an unelected bureaucrat imposing decisions. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the last colony in Europe. It is an example of a ‘nation-building’ country. We support the position of Donald Trump that the United States will no longer support building states in that way,” Cvijanović stated.

Cvijanović and Serb delegate to the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Radovan Kovačević are attending the summit at the invitation of Anna Paulina Luna, a member of the United States House of Representatives.

Cvijanović emphasized that she was very honored to participate in the inaugural summit of the Alliance of Sovereign Nations in Washington.
