Kovačević: No threats will deter us

For Serbs, Republika Srpska is the only state—we have no reserve state, said Radovan Kovačević, a Serb delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, speaking to RTRS in response to statements by SDA leader Bakir Izetbegović about defending Bosnia and Herzegovina “by all means.”

“We have no reserve state. We have Serbia, we love Serbia, but our only state is Republika Srpska,” Kovačević emphasized.

He added that the rhetoric coming from Bakir Izetbegović is unserious, as he claims to be ready to defend something that no one is attacking.

“We are ready to defend Republika Srpska by all means. I think it is unserious to listen to various absurdities from Bakir Izetbegović, who says they are ready to defend something even though no one is asking anything of them or attacking them, all the way to Zukan Helez, who talks about some ‘Plan B,’ or a mayor of a Sarajevo municipality, Efendić, who is also running for a seat in the Presidency and says they will form 15 brigades. These are various absurdities,” Kovačević said.

He stressed that such statements will not frighten anyone in Republika Srpska.

“You will not deter us by even a millimeter from fighting for what belongs to us—and what belongs to us is Republika Srpska, and to Republika Srpska belongs everything written in the Dayton Agreement. All the rights and competencies listed in the Dayton Agreement will always belong to us,” Kovačević was clear.

He added that if such an attitude toward Republika Srpska continues, it could lead to Republika Srpska being entitled to more.

“If you continue to behave this way, you can only come to the point where more belongs to us—I do not mean territory, but more rights and competencies,” Kovačević emphasized.

He reiterated that such statements will not frighten anyone and that Republika Srpska will continue to wage a determined political struggle to preserve all its rights.

“No threats from those small people who try to appear bigger in this way will shake us. You will not be bigger—you will remain as miserable as you are. Republika Srpska remains resolute in the fight for its political rights, for its status and autonomy, and in the fight to preserve everything that belongs to it. Republika Srpska will certainly not give up on that.”
