Milorad Dodik prevented Palestine from obtaining observer status at the United Nations, which is very important for Israel, said David Cohen, adviser at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Israeli ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a statement to RTRS.
Cohen said that he served as ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina for almost six years.
“However, I can tell you that what I liked most in Bosnia and Herzegovina was Republika Srpska. We spent our best moments in Republika Srpska. In most cases, I was very satisfied. One case I would like to share with you is when the Palestinian authorities sought to enter the United Nations as an observer state, meaning an entity that is not a full UN member. From 2010 to 2012, Bosnia and Herzegovina was a member of the UN Security Council, and because Mr. Dodik refused to support that resolution on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the resolution was not adopted by the United Nations. This was extremely important for Israel,” Cohen said.
He emphasized that this is why the friendship between Israel and Republika Srpska is very important.
“I must also mention that Arie Livne, who has passed away, was the man who connected Israel with Republika Srpska. I can also tell you that the city of Modi’in, with Mayor Bibas, is a great friend of Republika Srpska. All of us in Israel greatly appreciate Republika Srpska. Mr. Dodik will receive an award today because he supports our people and because he has supported Israel for a long time, in a positive way. Thank you, Mr. Dodik,” Cohen concluded.
