Borac’s basketball players continue to play at a relentless pace, and tonight’s away game against Primorje will be their ninth match in the past month.
Since the victory over Student on December 19, Borac have played against TFT, Sloboda, Akademac, Basket Živinice, Široki, Drina Princip, and Zrinjski, suffering defeats only to the team from Tuzla and a club from North Macedonia. Now they will visit Herceg Novi for the first time, with the sixth round ABA 2 League game scheduled for 6:00 PM. Borac enter the match with a 3–2 record, the same as TFT and Sloboda, and currently sit ninth in the standings, fighting for a playoff spot, which is reserved for the top eight teams.
The visitors from Banja Luka will be without experienced playmaker Tyrone Harris, who has been out of training for about ten days while recovering from a foot injury. Captain Srđan Gavrić will also be absent, while newly arrived Noah Farakhan, who joined from Igokea, is not eligible to play. The American guard began the season with Student, who also competed in the ABA 2 League, and therefore cannot feature in this round. At the same time, center Deshawn Cooper will make his ABA 2 debut. He has already played in the Bosnia and Herzegovina league and is expected to strengthen the paint, where the team faced difficulties following the departure of Dušan Tanasković.
“We are facing a demanding game against the leaders of the Montenegrin league. Primorje are an experienced team and play tough and aggressively. A win would bring us closer to qualifying for the next stage of the competition, and we will give everything to achieve that,” said Borac head coach Marko Šćekić.
Borac guard Srđan Adamović returned to the club last summer and has been receiving more playing time recently.
“A challenging away game awaits us in Herceg Novi, and due to the dense schedule we have little time for recovery and preparation. We are facing a Primorje team that currently tops the Montenegrin league standings, which clearly speaks to their quality. They are physically very strong and have several outstanding individuals. Our energy and focus need to be at a high level, and with the right approach, I believe we can continue our winning run this year,” Adamović said.
Jahorina host Vršac
The other representative of Republika Srpska in the ABA 2 League, Jahorina, will host Vršac in the sixth round tonight at 8:00 PM. The team from Pale holds a 2–3 record, the same as their upcoming opponent, and is “catching the last train” for the playoffs. Jahorina have suffered two consecutive defeats, and the squad has undergone significant changes since the start of the season. Head coach Boban Ninić has been replaced by Vaso Milović, while recent arrivals include Somalia national team player Mohamed Yusuf, Petar Avlijaš, Jovan Gutalj, Marko Gutalj, Adnan Arslanagić, and Vuk Kusmuk. Point guard Arderil Clay has left the team.
