Lecture “Life in Struggle” held in Doboj

Serbian language professor Nenad Gugla delivered a lecture titled “Life in Struggle” in Doboj.

Well known throughout the region, he is the author of the novels I Died on Friday, The Magnificence of a Second, and I Lived for a Thousand Years.

Work, knowledge, patience, faith, and love are the driving forces in every person’s life.

Living in struggle, he said, means moving forward, while living outside of it becomes a burden carried through life.

“Man should ideally be driven by something greater than himself — whether it is family, nation, or culture — but the greatest driving force is what is highest of all, and that is God Himself,” Gugla stated.

He spoke about how connecting knowledge from different fields can help overcome daily challenges.

“I may act incorrectly and gain a lot. We know the correct answer is Uroš the Crown Prince, but if one acts incorrectly, he himself may become the crown prince,” he added.

Gugla describes himself as a storyteller who reads books on behalf of others, and he sees his mission in motivating people.

“We constantly focus on everything else. Modern man has mixed up what is important and what is not, what is big and what is small, and has switched their places,” Gugla said.

The lecture, symbolically held during the Nativity Fast, was organized by the Serbian Educational and Cultural Society Prosvjeta and the Doboj parish.

“Through fasting, prayer, and these lectures, we try to bring people closer to what we should be and to open our spiritual horizons, so we can better grasp the essence of life today,” said protojerej Nedeljko Goranović, the parish priest in Doboj.

The hall was full, and most attendees were already familiar with Nenad Gugla’s work.

Due to strong public interest, the organizers announced that new lectures will follow soon.
