The visit of a high-level delegation from Republika Srpska to Budapest, along with the awarding of an honorary doctorate from the University of Banjaluka to Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, represents clear confirmation of successful cooperation between the two sides and a signal of its further strengthening, Ambassador of BiH to Hungary Biljana Gutić Bjelica told Srna.
“We are now bringing this cooperation from the highest political level closer to ordinary people, who will directly benefit from these ties,” Bjelica emphasized.
She noted that the visit of senior officials from Republika Srpska took place in the spirit of intensifying cooperation with Hungary, recalling that several important meetings were held during their stay.
According to her, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán confirmed that Hungary will continue all ongoing initiatives.
“New projects have been announced, and the continuation of support in the agricultural sector is especially important. Based on the information we have, the second cycle of this support is expected in mid-January,” she said.
Bjелица highlighted that Milorad Dodik delivered a lecture at the “Mathias Corvinus” University in Budapest, attended by around 8,000 students, where he addressed political developments in Republika Srpska, BiH, the region, and the world.
Dodik also spoke about Hungary’s approach toward Republika Srpska and BiH, as well as its important role in relations with the incoming U.S. administration of Donald Trump, and with Russia and President Vladimir Putin.
“These messages focused on peace, diplomatic solutions, ending the war in Ukraine, and preventing the destruction of infrastructure,” she said.
Bjelica also referred to the ceremony in Banjaluka where Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó received an honorary doctorate from the University of Banjaluka.
“Minister Szijjártó expressed his gratitude and said he views this honor as recognition for all who have contributed to the development of exceptionally good and friendly relations between Republika Srpska and Hungary,” she concluded.
