Lavrov: the West is deliberately sabotaging the Dayton Peace Agreement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at the UN General Assembly that systematic attacks are being carried out in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Kosovo and Metohija, targeting the Serb people and their fundamental rights.

“In both Kosovo and BiH, attacks have been launched against the vital interests of the Serb people, including the inherent rights of the Serbian Orthodox Church,” Lavrov stressed.

According to him, the unilateral recognition of Kosovo’s independence, in violation of Resolution 1244, essentially represented an attempt to dismantle the state structure of Serbia.

The Russian diplomat warned that such Western policies undermine peace and stability in the Balkans, emphasizing that Moscow remains consistent in defending sovereignty.

Lavrov also said that Western countries are deliberately sabotaging the Dayton Peace Agreement, thereby leading to the erosion of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s statehood.

He described the West’s actions in the Balkans as a flagrant example of undermining sovereignty and gross interference in the internal affairs of an independent state.

According to Lavrov, even the basic principle of the UN Charter—obliging all member states to respect Security Council decisions—is being openly violated in the region.

Security and vital interests of Russia must be guaranteed

Russia remains open to negotiations on resolving the causes of the conflict in Ukraine, but the rights of Russians and Russian speakers in territories under Kyiv’s control must be restored and fully respected, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“As President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, Russia has been and remains open to negotiations to eliminate the causes of the conflict. The security and vital interests of Russia must be reliably guaranteed,” Lavrov emphasized at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On that basis, Lavrov added, Russia is ready to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine.
