A lecture dedicated to writer Ljubomir Simović was held in Prijedor as part of the 53rd Kozara Literary Meetings, one of the oldest literary events in Republika Srpska.

Ljubomir Simović was a Serb poet, playwright, and translator. For his life’s work, he received the Skender Kulenović – Kozara Literary Wreath award at the Kozara Literary Meetings in 2001.

Ranko Popović, professor at the Faculty of Philology in Banja Luka, said that Simović is perhaps best known as a playwright, one of the most performed theatre authors in the former Yugoslavia, a three-time winner of the Sterija Award for drama, an essayist, and a writer whose works often stood at the crossroads of belles-lettres and journalism.

“Even 25 years ago, it could rightly be said that Ljubomir Simović was a living classic of Serb literature, and his works will remain a lasting value of Serb literature and culture,” Popović said.

The first Kozara Literary Meetings were held in 1964 and represent the central cultural event in Prijedor.

“Our Literary Meetings are the oldest and most important manifestation, which have been continuously held for over 50 years, and they constantly prove that literature is timeless and the best witness of history,” said Andrea Vukadinović, head of the city’s Department for Culture and International Cooperation.

The next event within the 53rd Kozara Literary Meetings will be a lecture by Professor Goran Maksimović on the ideal of freedom in the works of Petar Kočić, scheduled for September 18.
