Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik stated that Western countries exert malign influence in BiH, with the United Kingdom being the most active, through its special envoy for the Balkans, Karen Pierce, who, according to him, is trying to enforce the “bluff” of the so-called Bonn powers. Dodik emphasized that such Western influence has developed BiH into an incurable “disease.”
“The Russian Federation is committed to respecting international law on the territory of BiH. Those in the West destroyed all of it, while accusing Russia—because it didn’t follow them—of exerting a ‘malign influence,’” Dodik said at a press conference after meeting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
He added that Britain has the greatest malign influence through Pierce, who attended the 1997 Bonn conference that produced the so-called Bonn powers, which nowhere foresee the high representative imposing laws. “She admitted at a press conference back then: ‘This is not in accordance with the Dayton Agreement, this is a bluff.’ Today, she is the UK’s special envoy for the Balkans and is trying to implement her bluff,” Dodik stressed.
As an example, he claimed that during the war in BiH, Muslims staged the Sarajevo Markale incident to blame Serbs, and recalled that the UN commander at the time said Serbs could not have been responsible. “After that, NATO bombed Republika Srpska with depleted uranium bombs, the consequences of which we still suffer today,” Dodik added.
He also said that everyone in Republika Srpska recognizes Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine as justified. “Everything they rehearsed here in the Balkans, on us Serbs, was preparation for what they’re doing now,” Dodik stated.
Asked Russia to help close the OHR
Dodik said he asked senior Russian officials in Moscow to use their influence to help shut down the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in BiH.
“I asked Russia, through its influence and UN contacts, to help curb the chaos constantly created by Christian Schmidt, who is an unauthorized high representative. His actions can fundamentally jeopardize the Dayton Agreement and lead to BiH’s collapse by paralyzing joint institutions,” Dodik told reporters in Moscow.
He stressed the need to resolve the issue of the BiH Constitutional Court, where foreign judges, supported by Bosniaks, play the decisive role. “They are altering the constitutional order of BiH, while unjustly blaming the Serbs for everything,” Dodik said.
He reaffirmed that Republika Srpska supports a return to the original Dayton Agreement. “We have nothing against the Croat people having their own, third entity within the Federation of BiH. That would be fair,” Dodik underlined.
Dodik concluded that Republika Srpska will continue cooperating with Russia, noting that BiH never imposed sanctions on Russia thanks to Srpska, even though the Bosniaks wanted it. “BiH has never adopted a decision to impose sanctions on Russia. I am grateful to Russia and its leadership, led by President Vladimir Putin, for their cooperation. They understand the situation here and are committed to solving problems peacefully, while respecting BiH as a state composed of two equal entities and three constituent peoples,” Dodik said.
