Szijjártó on the referendum in Republika Srpska: The people decide who will lead them

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that it is the people of a country who decide who will lead them, and no one has the right to interfere.

“Who should lead Republika Srpska? The people of Republika Srpska should say that. What the future of Republika Srpska will be—we will not decide that from Budapest, not even from Brussels or Berlin. That will be decided by the people in Banja Luka, that is, in Republika Srpska,” Szijjártó stated at a press conference after meeting with Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik in Hungary.

He stressed that Hungary always respects the decisions of countries and their peoples about their own future.

“We strive for cooperation based on mutual respect. Such cooperation has always been successful between Hungary and Republika Srpska. We enjoy the benefits of this cooperation and do not wish to break it—we want to strengthen it in the future. We are continuing the development program that we launched a year and a half ago together with President Milorad Dodik,” Szijjártó said.
