Sanja Vulić, head of the SNSD caucus in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that the recent remarks by Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković — who announced he would call for mass protests if Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik is acquitted — constitute pressure on the judiciary and expose a blatant ambition to impose political control over judicial decisions.
Vulić said such statements represent direct interference in the work of judicial institutions and could, under BiH law, be considered a criminal offense—an attempt to influence the judiciary.
“Konaković has long acted like a political charlatan without any principles. Behind his grand talk of reforms and ‘higher goals’ lie personal ambitions, private networks, and an obsessive need to comply with whichever international figure opens their door to him. In reality, Konaković acts as a political commissioner of the so-called international community that installed him—but cannot give him what the people won’t,” said Vulić.
She added that Konaković’s credibility is completely eroded and that he is not taken seriously by his own party, by the public, or even by the few remaining allies who are now distancing themselves as his political rating continues to fall.
“Instead of assuming responsibility as someone in power, Konaković still thinks like he’s in the opposition—because he knows he never earned his position; it was handed to him,” Vulić said.
She emphasized the hypocrisy of the fact that Dodik is being tried under a “Schmidt-imposed law,” not one passed by the BiH Parliament.
“Dodik is being prosecuted based on that kind of law, while the very same Christian Schmidt shields Konaković from domestic laws, institutions, and accountability, despite the serious suspicions surrounding him. When he realizes he won’t be able to avoid investigations in which he may himself be involved, Konaković calls for anarchy—not for the sake of justice, but to distract from the truth,” Vulić added.
She noted that even Konaković knows he has neither the arguments nor authority for the upcoming election campaign—not even in the two cantons where his party nominally exists.
“He’s lost support because his ideological creator and main backer, U.S. Ambassador Michael Murphy, has retired. And the new players clearly don’t share the same trust in his political opportunism,” Vulić stated.
Vulić described Konaković’s attempt to reconcile with the SDA—after years of covert hostility—as a sign of his political desperation.
“It won’t work. His role in inciting foreign officials against Professor Dr. Sebija Izetbegović will not be forgotten—especially considering the injustice done to her under his silent complicity,” said Vulić.
She concluded by stating that Bosnia and Herzegovina must not be held hostage by political adventurists and that the judiciary must remain beyond the reach of Konaković’s ambitions and threats.
