Famous street artist paints mural on the “blood tribute” near the bridge on the Drina

Renowned street artist from Belgrade, Andrej Žikić Artez, is painting a new mural in Višegrad inspired by the theme of the “blood tribute” from the novel The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andrić, which will be located near the famous Višegrad bridge.

Artez emphasized that the mural is inspired by scenes from the novel in which the Turks take young Mehmed, the future Mehmed Pasha Sokolović, without whom, as he said, the bridge would not have existed.

“In cooperation with the organizers, we decided that this theme was appropriate for this location, as it is situated near the bridge itself,” said Artez.

He stressed that the idea of the project is to visually present various characters from Andrić’s novel, bringing the work closer to a wider audience and visitors who may not have had the chance to read it.

The project was initiated by the Eco-Center Association, with support from the Drina Hydroelectric Power Plant, Elektroprenos BiH, Canyon Adventures, and the municipality of Višegrad.
