Trifković: the French-German move includes an element of bluff

Professor of international relations Srđa Trifković told SRNA that the French-German non-paper represents yet another attempt to impose the will of official Brussels embodied in the illegitimate High Representative, and assessed that this move also contains an “element of bluff.”

Trifković believes that the appropriate response to this brutal move by Berlin and Paris should be a categorical refusal by the Serb side—whether Banja Luka or Belgrade—to submit to a dictate based on the illegitimate decisions of Christian Schmidt, because “that is the root of all evils.”

“This truly brutal non-paper is nothing more than an attempt to impose the will of official Brussels, embodied in an illegal and illegitimate High Representative, through pressure primarily on Belgrade,” said Trifković.

He pointed out that the document was made public during the visit of the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, to Belgrade, who also stated that Brussels expects a series of demands to be fulfilled, primarily referring to the imposition of sanctions on the Russian Federation.

“There is a glimmer of hope, in that this move is not fully backed by official Washington. But by the time the topic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serb lands comes onto the agenda of the Trump administration, a great deal of time will have passed—and unfortunately, the Serbs don’t have much time,” Trifković warned.

He stressed that Brussels is now facing a major headache, as it is expected to take over the burden of the war in Ukraine, from which the United States is gradually distancing itself.

“For this reason, I believe the French-German move includes an element of bluff. I do not believe that Paris, Berlin, Brussels, or London—amid an economic downturn in Germany and the rising financial, industrial, and military burden of supporting the Kyiv regime—can afford the luxury of imposing an unacceptable fait accompli on the Serbs in Republika Srpska,” concluded Trifković.
