Abonos mountaineers conquer Čabulja’s highest peak

Members of the Abonos Mountaineering Association from Banja Luka have successfully reached the summit of Čabulja Mountain’s highest peak—Velika Vlajna, standing at 1,776 meters above sea level.

This ascent marks another significant achievement in the club’s ongoing efforts to promote healthy living and explore the natural beauty of Bosnia and Herzegovina through regular hiking expeditions.

Čabulja is located in Herzegovina, nestled between the Neretva River and its right tributary, Drežanka.

With its rugged, karst landscape and largely untouched nature, the mountain leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

Formed from Mesozoic limestone and dolomite, Čabulja’s distinctive terrain was also shaped by intense Pleistocene glaciation, evident in the many moraine deposits found along its southwestern slopes.

Interestingly, despite being mostly barren and waterless, Čabulja is still used as summer pasture by herders from western Herzegovina. Scattered along its slopes are a few seasonal settlements that continue this traditional way of life.
