The “Ljubica” Theater Festival opens in Gradiška

The “Ljubica” Theater Festival begins today in Gradiška and will run until Friday, May 23. A total of seven performances will be staged, five of which are in the competitive program. The festival is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republika Srpska.

The event will open at 7:00 PM with the exhibition “Milica Babić Andrić – Life and Work”, curated by Milanka Blagojević and Goran Nikić.

The festival program opens with the premiere of the co-production play “Terra Incognita” by the National Theater of East Sarajevo and the City Theater of Gradiška.

On the festival’s closing night, the audience will enjoy the acclaimed play “Frankie and Johnny” starring Sloboda Mićalović and Igor Đorđević.

Competitive performances begin on the second night of the festival.

Festival selector Slađana Zrnić selected the following plays for the competition: “The Glass Menagerie” by the National Theater of East Sarajevo, “Švabica” by the National Theater of Republika Srpska, “Marriage Counseling” by City Theater “Jazavac” from Banja Luka, the comedy “Developmentally Delayed” by City Theater “Semberija” from Bijeljina, and “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Prijedor Theater.

Zlatan Vidović, Director of the City Theater of Gradiška, stated that the City Theater, the Cultural Center, and the City of Gradiška, as organizers, are very proud of the festival’s achievements so far and that they have worked hard to raise the bar even higher this year, expecting an even greater audience turnout.

Gradiška City Manager Bojan Vujinović emphasized that the accompanying content will be much richer compared to the previous two years and that the opening of “Ljubica” will be complemented by an exhibition dedicated to the first formally trained costume designer in the region, Milica Babić Andrić.

All performances will be held at the Cultural Center in Gradiška.
