Austrian politician Beate Meinl-Reisinger, who seems to believe that history began yesterday and that this gives her the right to lecture Republika Srpska on democracy, forgets two things: first – that Austria once occupied BiH, and second – that Serbs, twice in the last century, stopped the plans of those to whom Austrians eagerly made political and military concessions, stated the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.
“Today, as they try to impose foreigners who would write laws instead of us, we have both the historical and democratic right to say – we will not accept it! Meinl-Reisinger knows nothing about BiH, would likely struggle to even find it on a map, yet feels entitled to interfere in internal affairs and openly shows hostility toward Christian peoples in BiH by siding with the Muslims. She demonstrates that hostility toward both Serbs and Croats living in Austria as well, labeling them as part of some nonexistent ‘Bosnian diaspora’,” Dodik wrote on the X platform.
According to him, Mrs. Meinl-Reisinger is just another in a line of liberals across Europe advocating the suspension of fundamental freedoms and democratic rules simply because they dislike election results and the will of the people.
“That is a recipe for crisis, not for democracy. And as for Mrs. Meinl-Reisinger, it might be helpful to recall how she became known to the wider public – not for any successful policy, but because, in the midst of a serious political crisis in Austria, she walked away from coalition talks because she didn’t like how the coalition would look,” Dodik said.
He added that she didn’t like it, so she left the table.
“In that sense, maybe she understands us better than she cares to admit – we in Republika Srpska are not willing to remain in political arrangements where we are humiliated, erased, and blackmailed. The difference is that we do not walk away on a whim, as she did, but to preserve our freedom,” Dodik concluded.
