Petković in Strasbourg: Republika Srpska committed to peace

Republika Srpska fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the Dayton Agreement. It has not undertaken any actions contrary to the Dayton Agreement and does not plan to secede from BiH, stated Milan Petković, head of the Serb Club in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, during his address at the European Parliament.

“The recently adopted laws of Republika Srpska, which prohibit the operation of certain unconstitutional institutions of BiH, aim to faithfully implement the division of competences established by the BiH Constitution as agreed in Dayton. Republika Srpska does not seek anything beyond the competences that rightfully belong to it under the Constitution. The narrative is being distorted—it is not Republika Srpska that is attacking the constitutional order of BiH, but rather the continuous attacks on the constitutional rights of Republika Srpska and its citizens, both by domestic and foreign elements, that are the cause of the political instability plaguing BiH,” Petković asserted.

According to the meeting agenda, members of the EU-BiH Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) from the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH and the European Parliament are discussing the state of relations between the EU and BiH, one year after the EU Council’s decision to open accession negotiations with BiH.

Members of the SAPC between the European Union and BiH are participating in the 6th session of the committee, held on March 12 and 13 in Strasbourg.

In addition to members of the European Parliament, the meeting was attended by BiH Ambassador to the EU Obrad Kesić, Director of the Directorate for European Integration of the BiH Council of Ministers Elvira Habota, Head of the European Commission Unit for Montenegro and BiH Barbara Jesus-Gimeno, and Head of the Southeast Europe/Western Balkans Department of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Zuzana Michalkova Šutiakova.
