Prijedor audience introduced to the novel “Samo-Ra”

The novel Samo-Ra by writer Sanja Lukić was presented at the Sreten Stojanović Gallery in Prijedor. The debut novel of this Prijedor-born author, who resides in London, is rooted in love. Through thirty stories, readers can explore the authentic heritage of the local people.

Folklore, spiritual, and cultural heritage of this region form the foundation of Samo-Ra.

The author also reflects on the role of women in society and whether they can influence free decision-making in small communities.

“The novel essentially represents this region, the lands of the Balkans. More precisely, I would describe the town in detail as a small place at the foot of Mount Kozara. I have lived and worked in London for nearly 25 years, but I am also actively engaged in my hometown of Prijedor. The novel is directly connected to Kozara, our springs, meadows, and my people,” said Sanja Lukić, writer and author of Samo-Ra.

The novel portrays a world that intertwines different cultures and beliefs, merging Islamic and Christian philosophies of life with pagan traditions.

Zlatko Jurić, who wrote a literary review of the novel, emphasizes that it offers a dynamic and engaging love story.

“The writing technique here is completely different, and in a way, I was both amazed and surprised because Lukić managed to distance herself from a poetic expression. Often, poetry can disrupt prose and vice versa. If it were Miloš Crnjanski, then poetry could merge seamlessly. In this case, she has skillfully and vividly presented the characters and developed a compelling storyline,” said Jurić.

Sanja Lukić has also published five poetry collections.

She participates in international literary events and festivals and is a member of the Writers’ Association of Republika Srpska.
