Banjac: We mark one of the most important dates in the modern history of Republika Srpska

Darko Banjac, leader of the People’s Party of Srpska (NPS), stated that today marks one of the most significant dates in the modern history of Republika Srpska—the day in 1992 when the first Constitution of Republika Srpska was adopted, laying the foundation of its statehood and establishing the legal framework for the protection of national and political rights.

  • “The Constitution of Republika Srpska is not just a legal document—it is an expression of the Serb people’s will to live in freedom, security, and institutional protection within their constitutional and internationally recognized rights. Its essence lies in preserving our political and institutional autonomy, which was later confirmed by the Dayton Peace Agreement, solidifying Republika Srpska as a permanent and inalienable political and legal reality,” said Banjac.

He emphasized that today, more than three decades later, Republika Srpska faces numerous challenges and pressures from various directions, but one thing remains certain—Republika Srpska is indisputable, and its constitutional order must be preserved.

  • “The Dayton Peace Agreement provided a clear framework for Bosnia and Herzegovina to function as a state union composed of two entities and three constituent peoples. Any attempt to undermine the constitutional competencies of Republika Srpska, weaken its authority, or transfer its powers to joint institutions is contrary to both the Constitution and the letter of the Dayton Agreement,” Banjac stated.

He reaffirmed that the People’s Party of Srpska remains firmly committed to defending the constitutional competencies, identity, and institutional strength of Republika Srpska.

  • “Our priority is maintaining political stability, fostering economic development, and ensuring a better life for all citizens, while upholding the fundamental principles on which Republika Srpska is built. On this day, we proudly remember all those whose dedication, commitment, and courage contributed to the creation and preservation of Republika Srpska,” said Banjac.

He concluded by emphasizing the responsibility to honor this legacy by strengthening Republika Srpska and protecting its constitutional foundations for future generations.
