The city administration remains focused on the reconstruction and renovation of Kastel Fortress, one of the most significant cultural and historical landmarks in Banja Luka.
“Following the successful implementation of the wall illumination project last year, which received overwhelmingly positive reactions from citizens, we are continuing this year with ambitious plans for restoration,” said Milada Šukalo, advisor to the mayor of Banja Luka.
She explained that this phase of reconstruction will include the complete renovation and modern furnishing of Towers 1 and 2.
According to the project, Tower 1 will house a tourist information center, providing visitors with all necessary details about Kastel Fortress and other major tourist attractions in the city.
Tower 2 will be transformed into a souvenir shop with a café.
Šukalo emphasized that this project will be carried out with the support of the European Union, which is of great importance, as the need for the restoration of the fortress walls and towers significantly exceeds the capacity of the city budget.
“For this reason, our focus is on initiatives that can be realized through international projects and funding, which will allow the fortress to receive a new and improved appearance. Reconstruction will begin in the coming months, and according to the plans, work will be completed by summer. The towers will be fully renovated and modernly equipped, enhancing the city’s tourism infrastructure,” stated Šukalo.
She concluded that through this project, which will result in a fully restored and well-equipped Kastel Fortress, the city of Banja Luka is preserving its cultural heritage while further positioning itself on the tourism map.
