Šmit’s decision serves only to convince himself of his own importance

The head of the SNSD parliamentary group in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Srđan Mazalica, stated that Christian Šmit’s decision to annul the conclusions of the National Assembly serves only to convince himself of his own importance and nothing more. He added that it is comical that the U.S. Embassy in BiH welcomed this decision even before it was officially published.

“This decision seems to have been forced to create the impression that Šmit is doing something and that he is having some kind of impact,” said Mazalica.

He further questioned how Šmit plans to prevent the implementation of the conclusions of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

“Will he force MPs and delegates in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to vote a certain way? We called on MPs to take a specific stance, but it is up to their freedom whether they vote, abstain, or even attend the session. Perhaps Šmit thinks he can raise and lower their hands instead of them,” Mazalica emphasized.

He also asked whether Šmit would annul the findings of the medical team from Sarajevo’s General Hospital “Primarijus doktor Abdulah Nakaš,” which confirmed that the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, was medically unfit to attend the trial.

“After we stated in our conclusions that Dodik and the acting director of ‘Službeni glasnik,’ Miloš Lukić, should not go to trial until the President’s health improves, that position was confirmed by doctors from Sarajevo. Will they also be held accountable for having the same opinion as the MPs? How does Šmit intend to ban MPs from expressing their views on specific issues?” Mazalica asked.

He concluded that Šmit’s decision is “literally unenforceable and might as well be thrown out.”
