The exhibition “From Wood to Spirituality” in Foča, featuring Bojan Pljevaljčić, showcases eleven models of Orthodox churches from the region.
Thirty-six-year-old Bojan Pljevaljčić, an electrician from Foča, has turned this hobby into a craft of exceptional artistry, according to critics. These miniature versions of grand buildings are crafted from fir and bamboo wood, toothpicks, and plywood.
With small, medium, and large models, Pljevaljčić’s work is driven by calmness, dedication, and a strong will to authentically represent Serbian culture and spirituality. He explains that creating a larger model can take up to ten months.
“Completing any of these churches fills you with a positive energy, not just for that day but for days to come,” says Bojan Pljevaljčić, the creator of the exhibition From Wood to Spirituality.
Pljevaljčić’s work has received the blessing of the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, who was gifted a model of one of Serbia’s largest Orthodox places of worship—the St. Sava Church in Foča.
“Patriarch Porfirije made the sign of the cross, kissed the model, and said it was an extraordinary work of art, something that will be preserved in the Patriarchate,” Pljevaljčić adds.
The exhibition, which also serves as a unique tourist presentation, is open at the gallery of the “Old Herzegovina” Museum until January 5.
