Borac’s footballers suffered a 2-0 defeat against Vikingur in the 3rd round of the UEFA Europa Conference League in Reykjavik. This was the first loss for Mladen Žižović’s team in the league phase of Europe’s youngest club competition, following a draw against Panathinaikos (1:1) and a win over APOEL in Cyprus (1:0).
The hosts dominated from the start, taking the initiative. In the 3rd minute, Vikingur’s captain Nikolaj Hansen attempted a shot, but Borac’s goalkeeper Filip Manojlović made a save. This set the stage for what would happen in the 17th minute, when Hansen scored with an impressive backheel goal following an assist from Gisli Thordarson, putting Vikingur ahead 1-0. Six minutes later, Iceland’s team doubled their lead through Karl Gunnarsson. David Atlason threw in from the right side, and Borac’s Boban Nikolov inadvertently headed the ball to Gunnarsson, who scored. Thordarson had a good chance before the half ended but missed the goal.
The second half saw Borac’s “red and blue” open with a chance by substitute Nikola Srećković in the 53rd minute. The quick winger broke down the left side and shot towards the near post, but Vikingur’s goalkeeper Ingvar Jonsson was ready.
Two minutes later, Hansen tested Manojlović again, who made another save. In the 57th minute, Sandi Ogrinec fired a shot from 17 meters, but Jonsson was there to save it. Borac’s best chance came in the 82nd minute when David Čavić tried to score from close range, but Jonsson again saved brilliantly, keeping the score at 2-0. In the next match on November 28 at 18:45, Borac will host LASK Linz.
