Analysts: Donald Trump is the better option for the Serb people overall

The outcome of the U.S. presidential election is eagerly anticipated worldwide, including in the countries of our region, which, like the United States, are divided over who they would prefer in the White House.

Many analysts believe that Donald Trump would be a better option for the Serbian people as a whole, as he is expected to focus more on America’s internal issues.

Potential first female president Kamala Harris or White House returnee Donald Trump have been neck and neck in recent election polls. Analysts emphasize that tomorrow’s U.S. election results are significant for the entire world.

“These elections have a historic dimension because one of the candidates, Trump, is not a traditional politician but more of a manager with original plans and ‘solutions,’ making a return with an attempt to complete what he didn’t in his first term. On the other hand, Kamala Harris appeared at the last moment as a fallback solution for the Democratic Party after it became clear that incumbent President Joseph Biden would not be a suitable candidate and would likely lose the election,” said career diplomat Zoran Milivojević.

Although both candidates have sent vastly different messages during the campaign, the outcome will not be decided by the total number of votes for each but rather by so-called swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan, analysts suggest.

“During Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, she had several million more votes but lost due to the electoral votes. A very small margin can tip the electoral vote count to reach 270 plus one, as whoever wins those 270 electoral votes wins, regardless of the nationwide popular vote,” noted foreign policy commentator Miroslav Stojanović.

Concerns also loom over potential unrest and destabilization following the election. The U.S. National Guard is on standby in Washington, Oregon, and Nevada.

Recent research shows that Americans are deeply concerned about their future.

“Voters are motivated by their interests, weighing what is better for their future. Seventy percent of people are stressed because they don’t know what tomorrow will bring,” said Miloš Šolaja, professor at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Banja Luka.

Analysts conclude that Donald Trump would be a better option for the Serb people overall, as experts on U.S. administration believe he would balance America’s approach to the issues of Kosovo and Metohija, Republika Srpska, and general cooperation with other world powers.

“Trump has one quality that is a win for us—he respects the power dynamics in international relations, meaning he treats the leaders of Russia, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Brazil as representatives of powerful nations and wants to negotiate with them,” noted Dragan Petrović, a research advisor at the Institute of International Politics and Economics in Belgrade.

“Given that American society is quite divided with numerous unresolved issues, it suggests that America currently holds a stronger global position than it does internally. Therefore, any incoming administration will need to address both American society and numerous domestic issues,” Milivojević stated.

Whoever wins will face significant challenges. The new reality of a multipolar world, the rise of BRICS countries, and the deep divisions within American society will present a major test for the new U.S. president.

Without clear and rapid solutions, the dream of a ‘great America again’ may remain unfulfilled.
