The trial of the president of Republika Srpska as an attempt to undermine Srpska’s ethno-territorial representation

The Minister of Interior of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, stated that the trial of the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, in Sarajevo is an attempt to undermine all principles of Srpska’s ethno-territorial representation, as Dodik is recognized as the greatest barrier on this front.

Karan said that some are trying, through these destructive processes, to shape BiH solely to their own measure.

  • This is not a process against the president of Republika Srpska, but against the constitutional framework and Srpska’s position within the complex state of BiH – Karan told reporters today in Banja Luka.

He emphasized that the president of Republika Srpska accepted this mockery of a process precisely to try BiH in the courtroom, which he described as a non-state.

  • What is happening there is a trial of BiH itself, though they fail to see it. Everything that substantiates our claim will come to light – that BiH is a classic protectorate, a quasi-state, and an entity trying to establish itself through force and misuse of institutions – Karan noted.

He reiterated that this is a political, not a criminal-legal process, further evidenced by the silence of legal experts from the Federation of BiH on the matter.

Karan added that this is neither a lawful nor constitutional process. “It is nothing! This is a blatant example of the interplay between politics and the judiciary, which, unfortunately, is possible in BiH because it is a protectorate,” Karan emphasized.

He reiterated that the Constitution of BiH does not recognize either the Court or the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

  • These were imposed by the High Representatives, even though they had no right to do so. Therefore, these institutions will never have full legality or legitimacy. For us, they are of a temporary nature – Karan concluded.
