Tadić: Why does part of the West want to replace Bosnia’s Dayton order with one similar to Lebanon’s?

Legal expert Ognjen Tadić questioned why a portion of the West, which has been aware of Lebanon’s issues for decades, seeks to replace the Dayton structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where clear boundaries exist, with a system resembling the chaotic Taif Agreement-based order in Lebanon.

Tadić asked why they wish to replace thirty years of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina with new conflicts.

“These are completely legitimate questions, especially when we observe what’s happening in Lebanon today. If there were something like Republika Srpska in Lebanon, there wouldn’t be a Hezbollah as powerful as it is. Territorial demarcation would prevent them from dominating the entire country, and they would bear the responsibility for governing the territory under their control,” Tadić wrote on the social network ‘X’.

He emphasized that the West must draw conclusions from this situation, acknowledging that the solution for Bosnia and Herzegovina is not “Lebanonization,” where boundaries are unclear, and public functions are intertwined with a local ‘Bosnian Hezbollah.’ Instead, the solution for Lebanon should be “Daytonization,” where clear boundaries exist, allowing for accountability.

“And where boundaries exist, it is clear who is responsible for what, and crossing behavioral boundaries carries serious consequences,” Tadić concluded.
