A panel discussion titled “Anniversaries of Serb Literature” was held in Prijedor, where Professor Ranko Popović from the Faculty of Philology at the University of Banja Luka reminded attendees of significant milestones in Serbian literary history.
Popović highlighted that one of the most important anniversaries is the 200th anniversary of the Letopis Matice Srpske, originally named Srbski letopis.
“This is the oldest continuously published literary journal in the world. Serb literature truly has a gem like this,” Popović stated.
He also mentioned that 1864 marked the death of Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, and although it’s not a round anniversary, every year provides an opportunity to discuss his legacy, especially in connection with his relationships or disputes with the group around Matica Srpska and its Letopis.
“Figures such as Branislav Nušić, Branko Radičević, Aleksa Šantić, Jovan Dučić, Branko Ćopić, Branko Miljković, and others remain highly relevant today, and we should remind ourselves of them from time to time,” Popović added.
The evening panel, which is part of the 52nd Kozara Literary Meetings, was organized by the Ćirilo i Metodije Public Library. The event series continues on Tuesday, September 17, with a literary evening featuring Nenad Grujičić at the Sreten Stojanović Gallery.
