The play “Once upon a time there was a lion” by the Children’s Theater of Republika Srpska, directed by Nikola Bundalo, has won a prestigious award in the competitive program of the 13th International Children’s Theater Festival in Beijing.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 prevention measures, which will remain in effect in China until 2025, live performances have not been held. Instead, a recording of the play “Once upon a time there was a lion” was broadcast on August 12th. The play garnered significant attention from the Chinese audience, with 322,000 views, leading to the Children’s Theater of Republika Srpska receiving the Award for Outstanding International Online Performance.
The Beijing festival, held from July 12th to August 18th, featured participation from eight international theaters and thirteen theaters from China. It was organized by the National Theater for Children of China and sponsored by the State Ministry of Culture of China.
Actors Nikola Milaković, Đorđe Janković, Zorana Šuman, and Svjetlana Andrić captivated both the young Chinese audience and the expert jury with their performance, solidifying “Once upon a time there was a lion” as one of the most successful projects in the history of the Children’s Theater of Republika Srpska.
