Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Staša Košarac requested today that the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Transport and Communications, and Defense in the Council of Ministers act within their jurisdictions to promptly and without delay approve the engagement of the Serbian MUP helicopter to assist in extinguishing potential fires.
Košarac submitted the request following information about the necessity for regular servicing of the Republika Srpska Helicopter Service’s helicopters due to daily activities and operations at fire sites in the Herzegovina region in recent periods.
Košarac pointed out that significant efforts have been made in recent times to extinguish fires in the Herzegovina area, resulting in the capacity strain on the Republika Srpska Helicopter Service.
“The engagement of the Serbian MUP helicopter would be crucial in helping prevent the endangerment of human lives, extinguishing potential new fires, and mitigating any possible material damage,” Košarac emphasized.
He reminded that the Republika Srpska Helicopter Service is available to the citizens of both Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, providing assistance and support in all necessary situations, such as natural disasters and emergency medical transport.
Earlier, the Director of the Republika Srpska Helicopter Service Boban Kusturić appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to approve Serbia’s request to send a helicopter to BiH, or else bear responsibility for any endangerment of material goods or people in case of fires.
In the next seven to ten days, the Helicopter Service’s helicopter must undergo regular maintenance due to excessive workload, having dropped 140 tons of water in recent days in the municipality of Ljubinje, among other areas, where a fire was extinguished along the demarcation line.
