The inaugural session of the Serbia – Republika Srpska Parliamentary Forum will be held today in Banja Luka.
President of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, stated in the RTRS Morning Program that today is a historic day.
“We have not had a parliamentary forum for 30 years. It will convene twice a year,” Stevandić said.
He noted that the forum comprises 11 deputies from Republika Srpska and 11 from Serbia.
- “It includes representatives of the government and the opposition. Additionally, from our side, it includes representatives of the constituent peoples,” Stevandić explained.
He emphasized that the forum will submit its acts, conclusions, and proposals to the assemblies of Republika Srpska and Serbia for consideration.
- “It will also communicate with international organizations. The forum will have co-chairs. From Republika Srpska, it is Igor Žunić, and from Serbia, Dušan Marić,” Stevandić added.
Stevandić reminded that today is the constitutive session, and the session will continue tomorrow.
To recap, President of the National Assembly Nenad Stevandić and then-President of the Serbian Assembly Vladimir Orlić signed a Memorandum on the formation of the Serbia – Republika Srpska Parliamentary Forum on September 20 of last year.
The parliamentary forum is set to convene twice a year, and its decisions will be verified by the assemblies of Serbia and Republika Srpska.
For the first time, the two national assemblies have formed a joint working body where deputies will play a key role.
Each national assembly will form its own delegation, which will, through joint work, consider important political issues, and harmonize positions and declarations.
