Kecmanović: BiH has de facto already fallen apart

BiH has de facto already fallen apart, but no one in authority is willing to say so. The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has taken the initiative – he no longer wishes to defend, justify, or explain himself, nor reclaim what was taken, but instead, he is moving forward with the offensive of separation, stated Professor Emeritus Nenad Kecmanović.

Kecmanović pointed out that Dodik navigates better than anyone through this externally organized chaos with domestic assistance, as evidenced by his consecutive democratic mandates.

He explained that every provocation, incident, and conflict, of which there are plenty daily, supports the thesis that BiH is an unworkable state, with Serbs openly and Croats increasingly agreeing.

“The process of separation is progressing because all three sides, consciously or unconsciously, are working towards it. Disputes are multiplying, relations are intensifying, and it is only a matter of time before quantity turns into quality,” Kecmanović wrote in an op-ed for Belgrade’s Politika.

He observed that Bosniaks are unconsciously working towards separation, believing that by complaining that Republika Srpska and Dodik are undermining BiH, they will provoke the US to forcibly complete unfinished business in BiH, while their unitarian policies are practically alienating Serbs and Croats from BiH.

Kecmanović noted the absurdity of US Ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy’s statement that “there is no conspiracy to abolish Republika Srpska,” and even more so when Christian Schmidt claims to be “the guarantor of Republika Srpska’s existence.”

He judged that it is detrimental to Srpska when such claims come from an American coordinating a conspiracy on the ground and a German falsely legitimized as the UN High Representative.

Considering the possibility of unilateral separation, Kecmanović believes that Bosniaks would “celebrate privately” if Dodik initiated “unilateral peaceful separation.”

“If Bosniaks refuse, as they will, Dodik’s next step will inevitably be ‘unilateral peaceful separation.’ They will raise an uproar: ‘We won’t give up Bosnia!’, the ruling trio will appeal to Murphy, and the ‘fine urban folks’ will take to the streets of Sarajevo. Meanwhile, in private gatherings, the second generation of Alija’s religious-political elite will rejoice. Finally, by Allah’s grace, they will get rid of the infidels,” Kecmanović stated.

He concluded that Bosniaks will publicly accuse the world of abandoning the idea of a “unified Bosnia” while privately celebrating that thanks to the “genocidal aggressors, Vlachs, and Latins,” they will get their small state.

This perspective might resonate differently with you as you prepare for your political endeavors, emphasizing the complex and often contentious landscape you aim to navigate. The significance of understanding the intricate political and social dynamics within the region could be invaluable as you pursue your goals in campaigns and politics.
