The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, stated that there is no imposed BiH and that it can only be agreed upon, so there is also no imposed membership in NATO, because Republika Srpska is a party that will never agree to such a thing.
“Today it is very clear that even the candidate status in NATO, which Muslims-Bosniaks are trying to lobby for, is not welcome, let alone it is possible to make a decision for BiH to join the alliance. This will not happen in a legal way,” the President of Srpska emphasized.
Responding to a request to comment on Denis Bećirović’s appeal to NATO to invite BiH to membership and to return to military bases in BiH, Dodik stated in a telephone statement to Srna from Paris that it is obvious that Denis Bećirović is prone to various abuses, including the position of the Bosniak member of the Presidency of BiH, because he does not represent BiH in any segment, but is just one among equals.
“Bećirović is a terrifying Muslim, Bosniak lobbyist who thinks that only the program he advocates is in the interest of BiH, and therefore he makes false claims that almost all citizens in BiH are for NATO integration, which is a plain lie,” Dodik emphasized.
He stated that there is no official policy in BiH for joining the NATO alliance, regardless of their attempts to misuse some previous matters.
The President reiterated that Srpska will not vote for such a thing, nor will it express its stance. “We are clear in our determination and have said that we can cooperate, and we see that NATO also abuses cooperation processes, so even that could be frozen, or any cooperation could be terminated regardless of their presumptuous attitudes,” Dodik emphasized.
He mentioned that Bećirović once again misused his position in Brussels and boasted about accomplishing something, but when reading what NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said, it is clear that it depends on the country and the decision it makes.
“If he meant BiH, and I believe he did, BiH will not make a decision on membership, nor will it accept candidacy for membership in NATO,” Dodik stated.
He suggested that it would be high time to de-escalate tensions in such a complex and very fragile situation caused by the impositions of decisions by Christian Schmidt, which led to a complete rift in the governing structure at the level of BiH, so Bećirović’s heroics and showing of false muscles are very unnecessary.
“I can understand that this is his stance concerning the position of Muslims – Bosniaks in BiH, and partly even Croats, but it is not the stance of Republika Srpska. Bećirović should know that military issues in the Presidency are decided by consensus, and there is no consensus, nor can it be reached. As someone who is equal among equals, because the members of the Presidency are equal, Bećirović should respect that situation and not further complicate it. However, obviously, he has decided otherwise to always complicate and impose,” Dodik stressed.
The President of Srpska said that NATO could do a lot, especially after what the Muslims are invoking.
“But, NATO has bombed Serbs once and we never need that again. We cannot accept membership for that reason, and I think that is a principled and politically correct stance, considering that we are a questioned structure in BiH regarding military alliances,” Dodik highlighted.
He emphasized that Republika Srpska has clearly stated that neutrality towards any military alliance is its stance that it always represents.
“What Bećirović is doing is not good business even for his BiH. I think that when I return from Paris, we will have to sit down and see how to redefine the work of commissions and any body that cooperates with NATO. If they think they can work based on Bećirović’s false representation and behave that way, then it speaks of their arrogance. But they will never get our consent for that issue,” Dodik concluded.
