With deep respect, we remember today the innocent victims of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, which began exactly 27 years ago without the approval of the United Nations Security Council, stated Željka Cvijanović.
“This date will forever remain engraved in our collective memory as a day of remembrance for all victims. May they be eternally remembered, and may it be our vow never to forget them,” Cvijanović said.
The NATO launched the military campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on March 24, 1999.
The bombing lasted 78 days, resulting in the deaths of thousands of soldiers and civilians, as well as material damage estimated in the tens of billions of dollars.
During the campaign, weapons prohibited by international conventions were used, including cluster bombs and projectiles containing depleted uranium.
