An exhibition of drawings by Branko Miljuš has opened at the Gallery Sreten Stojanović in Prijedor, marking 90 years since the birth of one of the most prominent Serb graphic artists.
The exhibited works were created during the later phase of Miljuš’s artistic career and are owned by his daughter Teodora Jurić Miljuš, who is also a visual artist.
Art historian and curator Dajana Bilbija noted that the drawings date from the final decade of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century.
“They represent the artist’s intimate inner world, revealing and demystifying the internal processes of form-building and his reflections on various subjects and artistic explorations,” Bilbija said.
The Prijedor gallery “Sreten Stojanović” is celebrating 30 years of existence this year. Its director Boris Eremić emphasized that Miljuš holds a prominent place in the city’s artistic heritage.
“When we speak of Prijedor as a city of painters, Branko Miljuš is certainly at the top of that pyramid. This exhibition is one way we can pay tribute to such great figures, thanks to whom we deserve that title,” Eremić said.
In addition to his artistic work, Miljuš made a significant contribution as an art educator. He served as dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade and was one of the founders of the Academy of Arts in Banja Luka.
