Stable dairy exports and declining imports in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s dairy sector recorded stable export performance last year, with milk and dairy product exports reaching approximately BAM 146.13 million, marking a slight increase of 0.16 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, imports declined by 4.94 percent, totaling BAM 254.65 million.

According to an analysis by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina, export volumes decreased by 5.59 percent compared to 2024, while export coverage of imports stood at 57 percent.

Despite the drop in overall export volume, key product categories saw both quantitative and value growth. Fermented dairy products increased by 11.42 percent, butter and dairy spreads surged by 50 percent, while cheese and curd recorded a 21 percent rise.

The main export markets remained unchanged, including Montenegro, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Serbia.

On the import side, the leading partners in 2025 were Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, and Slovenia. Imports from Germany, Hungary, Croatia, and Slovenia declined, while imports from Serbia showed an upward trend.

The most imported products included cheese and curd, milk and cream, as well as butter and other fats and oils derived from milk.

“Despite economic disruptions in the market, exports from the dairy processing sector remained stable. The 5.59 percent decline in export volume primarily relates to milk, while all other dairy products recorded growth both in quantity and value,” the analysis stated.
