Mastilović in Moscow: Strengthening inter-university cooperation between Republika Srpska and the Russian Federation

Minister for scientific and technological development and higher education of Republika Srpska Draga Mastilović met today in Moscow with Ruslan Grigorievich Gagkuev, chairman of the board of the Russian Historical Society and executive director of the History of the Fatherland Foundation, to discuss improving cooperation between Serb and Russian historians and scientific institutions of Republika Srpska and the Russia in the field of historical science.

“During the meeting at the headquarters of the Russian Historical Society, the need to preserve the culture of memory was emphasized, especially regarding the Second World War and the enormous suffering of the Serb and Russian peoples during that conflict. The importance of combating negative historical revisionism and the falsification of the history of the Second World War was also highlighted,” Mastilović said.

The importance of the office of the Russian Historical Society in Republika Srpska was underlined, and it was agreed that cooperation between the Russian Historical Society and the Institute of Historical Sciences of the University of East Sarajevo will continue, including the organization of joint scientific conferences that have been held in November for several years.

Mastilović emphasized that cooperation with Russian scientific and research institutions is of great importance for the development of historical science and the preservation of shared cultural and historical heritage.

During his stay in Moscow, Mastilović also met with Znaur Gassiev to discuss possibilities for establishing inter-university and scientific cooperation. The meeting was also attended by Duško Perović.

“We discussed possibilities for establishing cooperation between Republika Srpska and South Ossetia in the field of science and higher education. There is readiness to develop institutional cooperation, with a particular focus on connecting universities and scientific research institutions,” Mastilović said.

He added that a visit by the ministry and two public universities from Republika Srpska to South Ossetia has been agreed for June this year, when a cooperation agreement is expected to be signed.
