Dodik: Republika Srpska keeps the situation under control

President of Alliance of Independent Social Democrats Milorad Dodik said that Republika Srpska has the situation under control when it comes to fuel supply.

“There is always some kind of fuss and noise created, and suddenly someone who has no understanding of life, the economy, or how a state functions proposes a law to abolish all fuel excise taxes. How would you maintain transport then? That is ridiculous,” Dodik said.

He emphasized that such proposals can only come from those who have no understanding of real life and who try to raise the issue to a political level.

Dodik pointed out that European banks, when asked to finance road construction projects, require stable sources of revenue.

“That means you cannot change excise taxes whenever you feel like it or grant exemptions to anyone, because then it is not a reliable business environment and you lose credibility. Yet someone at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina tries to sell the story of abolishing excise taxes,” Dodik said.

Without roads and highways, Dodik added, there can be no economic development or inflow of people.

“People leave on small, worn-out roads, but they come through large highways,” Dodik said, adding that Republika Srpska will continue building roads.

He also stated that Republika Srpska currently holds a strong international position.

“Today everyone knows Republika Srpska,” Dodik told reporters in Bijeljina after a meeting with local business representatives.
