Cvijanović in Washington: There have never been migrant camps in Republika Srpska; responsibility has been demonstrated

Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović said at the panel “National Sovereignty and Foreign Migration” in Washington, D.C. that there have never been migrant camps in Republika Srpska, stressing that this demonstrated responsibility toward its citizens.

“You already have challenges in every society. Why would you add something like that? This is the way we dealt with it,” Cvijanović said.

She pointed out that Republika Srpska, which makes up 49 percent of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has never accepted or organized migrant camps.

“However, there were problems when it comes to Brussels. Their approach was that we should all be well-mannered, be good hosts, and show a big heart,” Cvijanović said in a video posted on social media.

She emphasized that the issue is not about showing a “big heart,” but about demonstrating responsibility toward one’s own people.

“Because your people elected you and you answer to them. You want to have strong institutions and to prove that they are strong. That is how we dealt with it,” she said.

Cvijanović and Serb delegate to the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Radovan Kovačević participated in the panel as part of the summit of the Alliance of Sovereign Nations at the invitation of U.S. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna.
