Ćeranić: Conflict in the Middle East brings higher oil prices to Bosnia and Herzegovina; no attractive targets in the country

The conflict in the Middle East is creating economic problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina due to rising oil prices, which in turn drives increases in other prices, but the country does not represent attractive targets, which is encouraging, said Predrag Ćeranić.

“The conflict is creating problems for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as countries in the region, in the sense that the price of oil has started to rise, and that leads to increases in other prices,” Ćeranić said.

He noted that what is encouraging is that there are no attractive targets for such attacks within Bosnia and Herzegovina, although the situation is different in Kosovo and Metohija.

“One of the priorities of the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska is the protection of important facilities,” Ćeranić said, adding that citizens of Republika Srpska are safe because they are protected by the police.

He expressed hope that the conflict in the Middle East will not last long.

“We hope it will end and that a solution will be found. Of course, civilians suffer through no fault of their own. Economic consequences are already present, while in the security sphere there are risks from which we cannot fully protect ourselves. The police will protect citizens,” he said.

Ćeranić added that Republika Srpska, due to its relations with the administration of Donald Trump, as well as with Russia and China, has created a geopolitical balance and can remain relatively calm regarding the conflict in the Middle East.
