For Russia, the most important priority is achieving the set objectives of the Special Military Operation, while the timeframe in which they will be achieved is now of lesser importance. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Igor Kalabukhov, in the RTRS program Pečat, marking the fourth anniversary of the Russia–Ukraine war.
As he noted, one of the most significant meetings was the meeting between the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, held in Alaska.
“Some agreements were reached there, followed by several rounds of negotiations. However, we see strong resistance—especially from certain Western European countries and the United Kingdom—to prolonging this conflict. In that sense, after all these years, the timeframe is not what matters. What matters to us is achieving our goals, and we will achieve them,” Kalabukhov emphasized.
Speaking about Russia and the extent to which it can now trust the sincere intentions of those who will negotiate peace, Kalabukhov said that Russia had shown great patience.
“We conducted negotiations in the hope of achieving the best possible outcome for everyone, but our Western partners pursued a different path. They supported a coup d’état in Ukraine, after which all these negotiations began. We see that what was happening was merely an attempt to arm Ukraine. Then Merkel and Hollande, the former President of France, stated that this had indeed been the goal,” he said.
Kalabukhov added that Russia appreciates the efforts of the U.S. administration to establish peace.
“We are working together with them. Our conditions, as I have emphasized, must be accepted. We are negotiating, and I expect another round of talks,” the Russian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina stated.
Kalabukhov, who held meetings today in Banja Luka with officials of Republika Srpska, stressed that “in this turbulent world there must be one constant, and that is the friendship between the Russian Federation and Republika Srpska.”
“This is exactly what we discussed at the meetings. There is a whole range of issues we are addressing—economy, agriculture, and, of course, the humanitarian and cultural sphere through the Russian language, theatres, films, and so on. We have a good future in terms of development and strategic partnership between the Russian Federation and Republika Srpska,” Kalabukhov said.
He added that there would be further good opportunities to promote bilateral relations.
“We have many plans, and one of them is the construction of a Russian–Serb church,” Kalabukhov said, stressing that Russian–Serb friendship should continue to be strengthened.
