Actors Ana Lečić and Stefan Piale performed the melodrama The House by the Beach in Prnjavor on Sunday evening. The production is a multimedia theatrical film, with part of the performance unfolding through video sequences integrated with live acting on stage.
Lečić told SRNA that the core of the play is a story about the relationship between two young people, following their friendship, love, conflicts, and reconciliations. Humorous and serious moments alternate, while the “house by the beach” becomes a symbol of their acquaintance and lifelong love.
“This is definitely something new in theatre. Both directors and actors are somewhat afraid that melodrama might slip into pathos, because people today are often embarrassed to express emotions. What drew me to this project is a pure story in which two people love each other for their entire lives,” she said.
Lečić added that the audience in Prnjavor was wonderful and highly engaged, making it a real pleasure to perform for them.
Her stage partner Stefan Piale noted that before every performance there is a certain apprehension about audience reactions, precisely because the play blends theatre and film and includes a substantial amount of video material.
“Tonight was far better than we expected, and we hope to return to Prnjavor,” Piale said.
The House by the Beach, based on a text by Katarina Aleksić Simović, directed by Irfan Mensur, and produced by Teatar Vuk and Jugoart, was staged at the Center for Culture and Tourism Prnjavor.
Prnjavor audiences can expect another special theatre evening on Monday, March 2, with the play Welcome to the Cabaret, performed by Tanja Bošković and Rade Marjanović.
This warm and witty production, based on texts by Duško Radović and Gale Janković, will be presented as part of the program marking Prnjavor City Day on March 24. Admission is free, and the performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
